What Affects the Cost of Air Duct Cleaning?

The factors that change the price of air duct cleaning, and how to avoid bait-and-switch offers.

Prices for duct cleaning vary a lot, and very low advertised prices are a common warning sign. Here is what actually changes the cost of a job.

What changes the price

  • Number of HVAC systems. A second furnace or air handler means a second set of ducts.
  • Number of vents. More supply and return vents mean more duct runs to clean.
  • Access. Tight attics, crawlspaces and two-story homes take more time.
  • Amount of buildup. Remodel dust or years of pet hair take longer to remove.
  • Add-ons. Sanitizing, dryer vent cleaning or a chimney sweep in the same visit.

Watch out for very low prices

Ads offering a whole-house duct cleaning for a very low flat price often lead to a much higher bill once the crew arrives. A full cleaning takes hours of work with specialized equipment, and an honest price reflects that.
